Elysian Fields - Bleed Your Cedar [1996]

Elysian Fields' debut Bleed Your Cedar finds the band following through on the blueprint of their eponymous EP, offering a set of slow, gloomy and occasionally seductive jangle-pop that's often quite reminiscent of Mazzy Star. Elysian Fields isn't as dark as Mazzy Star and Jennifer Charles has a more traditionally pretty voice than Hope Sandoval, which helps distinguish the group from the legions of indie noir-rock bands. Portions of Bleed Your Cedar are a little unfocused, but on the whole it's an intriguing listen from a promising band.
